Cottleville is a small city in St. Charles County, Missouri. It is a suburb of St. Louis and is located near the Mississippi River that separates Missouri and Illinois. According to the United States Census Bureau, there were approximately 5,151 people living in Cottleville in 2016.

Original inhabitants of the area Cottleville is located in were Native American Indians. Eventually, European settlers arrived and began establishing communities. Cottleville was laid out in 1839. It is named for Captain Lorenzo Cottle, an early settler and Black Hawk War and Seminole Wars veteran. Since 1843, a post office has operated in Cottleville.

Cottleville is home to many facilities and amenities. Located in Cottleville is Legacy Park, a beautiful park featuring a basketball and tennis courts and playground equipment. Also in the city are Francis Howell Central High School and St. Charles Community College.
